Efsa: updated evaluation published

In addition to many other applications, silica has also been used for decades as a process aid in the food industry. Usage of silica is being made transparent for the end consumer by labelling with E 551 on the food packaging. The European authorities regularly check the safety of food additives. EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) published its updated evaluation in January.

 EFSA confirms that silica (E 551) is safe to use in food.
