Is synthetic amorphous silica (SAS) dangerous?

No, SAS is not dangerous for either humans or the environment. Evonik has been working with SAS for decades.
It is one of the most rigorously tested substances with regard to potential risks to humans or the environment. Toxicological and ecotoxicological tests and many years of experience in its manufacture and use have resulted in absolutely no indications of risks to health or the environment through SAS. Based on these test results and experience, SAS does not satisfy the classification criteria of Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP) for dangerous substances and is therefore not a hazardous material.
